LIFTED on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2184020/LIFTED/

LIFTED is a cinematic 2.5D adventure game developed and published by Adventure Works. It recently arrived on Steam and offers a lighthearted journey through several historical settings.

In LIFTED, you play as Ari, a student who just wanted some extra credit, but ended up as the accidental wingman to your professor, Lionel Raventhorpe, in a time travel adventure instead.

The adventure takes you through a handful of locations, including ancient Egypt, a pirate level in the Caribbean, the Yucatan peninsula, and a snow covered mountain.

The gameplay consists of simple 2D platforming with no real combat. You spend your time rope climbing and using your professor’s grappling hook to navigate the levels. The movement feels serviceable and never really feels like a chore, but is extremely simple.

Throughout the game, you will also encounter environmental puzzles that involve simple tasks like moving crates onto certain pressure plates to advance through the level.

These work well enough, but there’s not enough variety.

It is obvious the game takes a lot of inspiration from Back to the Future and other eighties blockbusters.

The presentation is polished, featuring high quality voice acting and a soundtrack that fits the atmosphere.

The story is short and only took me about two and a half hours to finish. LIFTED goes for twenty dollars. I feel that price is a little high for such a short experience, even if the production value is rather high.

The game ultimately feels more like an interactive animated movie than a traditional platformer.

It also works great on the Steam Deck for anyone who wants to play portably.

  • We just posted the first video in our new series called “Rolled Credits”. It’s close to a review, without being a review. We give our thoughts on a game after we roll credits. You can find the series on YouTube or over in the videos section on the website.

  • After seeing the news that the team behind Deceive Inc is closing, I decided I should post an old review I wrote for the game. Parts of the review are outdated, but most of it is still sound. The game isn’t shut down yet, but I don’t expect it to stay up much longer. Deceive Inc is fun, but never really decided what kind of game it wanted to be.
