The demo for Yooka-Replaylee just landed on Steam, and hidden within its files are tons of clues about the full release. Here are some of the most interesting things I discovered.
Still Only 5 Worlds
In \Yooka-Replaylee Demo\ReplayleeWin64_Data\StreamingAssets\aa\catalog.json it makes references to “Assets/Playtonic/Scenes/Main Levels/Level_01”, goes up to Level_05 and then has “Level_07_FinalBoss”. Hub is listed as “Level_00_Hub_X”.
This file also makes reference to “Assets/Playtonic/Game/Scenes/RextroArcade/Levels/RextroArcade_Level_01/RextroArcade_Level_01.REXTROARCADELEVEL.asset” and goes up to RextroArcade_Level_08.
The most obvious omission here is Level_06. Why is it missing? It’s unclear. This could indicate a world that was cut during development, or perhaps it’s simply a placeholder in case they decide to add a sixth world later. Based on the demo’s files, though, it still looks like we’re getting five core worlds.
Rextro Has 8 New Levels
One of Yooka-Replaylee’s most welcome upgrades is the complete overhaul of the Rextro minigame levels. Here are the names of these revamped challenges:
Jawesome Jungle
Snipline Sands
Dino-Soar Desert
Pushy Palms
Slowflow Tableau
Grrr-apple Glacier
Hot-Hop Hike
Bite ‘n Switch Blizzard
Galleon Galaxy I.N.E.P.T
Yooka-Replaylee addresses a famous/infamous Yooka-Laylee easter egg: the I.N.E.P.T. robot in the final level. Previously capped at 98% loading, now well… it does this:
- “Bzzzt! Error! Loading sequence was interrupted by hostile forces.”
- “Attempting loading, 97%…98%..99%…error!”
- “Please remove hostile forces from the area.”
- “Loading complete, please interface with I.N.E.P.T unit.”
- “Wow, I hope this is worth all this bother.”
- “Loading complete….bzzzt…”
- “…Bzzzt..”
- “..zzzzt.”
- “Ineptshirtfinalfinal1.inept has finished rendering. Please see Vendi to claim your complimentary accessory.”
- “We waited all this time for a lousy accessory?!”
- “We never really learned what that thing was gonna say. So, I can’t put it in my story this time, can I?
We got an exciting space battle, didn’t we? I thought that was neat.” - “I was hoping to learn an incredible secret!”
- “Bzzzt? Secret?!! “Vendi disappears between one and three am every night” bbzzzzt error.”
- “Hmm, perhaps some things should remain mysteries.”

Here’s what the cosmetics look like.
Here’s what some of the cosmetics look like on Yooka and Laylee.
New Character?
Grant Kirkhope appears in the game, in some form. Could be wrong, but I don’t remember Grant actually being a character in the original.

This character has a Pagie and 16 lines of dialogue attached to him.
Along with that, it appears that the rap is now in the game.

What Else?
I’m sure there’s still plenty more that could be found if you were to dig through the rest of the files, but that seems like a good place to stop for now.
Yooka-Replaylee is slated to release sometime in 2025, though the exact date is not known as of now.
You can find Yooka-Replaylee on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2448020/YookaReplaylee/
I also took a look at the demo, which you can find below.
